Parathyroid UK attends the SfE BES online conference

22nd November 2020

No getting snowed- in in Harrogate as this year the SfE BES conference was held online and we set up our virtual ‘stand’ for delegates to visit. Liz Glenister and Mandy Mainland spent the week watching webinars of speakers, with an interactive Q&A after each talk.

First up for us was Professor John Wass presenting his keenly awaited review of the NHS Endocrinology services for the Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) project which aims to to improve the quality of care within the NHS by reducing unwarranted variations. We were very pleased with the outcome and look forward to the report to be published soon.

Next, our own lead advisor, Professor Bill Fraser chaired a symposium on phosphate homeostasis.

The SfE Bone and Calcium Network, led by our advisor Professor Jeremy Turner, met to discuss the latest research. Prof Turner brought news that the data on the post surgical treatment survey is now being analysed and Dr Donal Ward presented his fascinating research on phosphate sensing and CaSR. Prof Neil Gittoes gave a brilliant talk about the changes to endocrine services during Covid and more about the Future of Endocrinology was discussed by Dr Helen Simpson.
