To mark Awareness Month we have added a new page to the website of patient videos to highlight the challenges of living with Primary Hyperparathyroidism.
First, we bring you a compelling slideshow by patient expert Cleo Conway-Bence in which she describes her diagnosis with Primary Hyperparathyroidism and the impact it has had on her life. Cleo’s story is part of a presentation she gave to the first Parathyroid Disease Study Day held at Cork University Hospital in Ireland last month where the audience of 78 included endocrinologists, endocrine, general and ENT surgeons, radiologists, radiographers, GPs, nursing and paramedical staff, physician associates, medical and surgical doctors in training, medical and nursing students – everyone in the area involved in parathyroid management.
Evaluation after the education event included much praise for the content and strong message of Cleo’s presentation during which ‘no-one blinked for the whole 8 minutes’. Calls were made for more patient stories to be included in future meetings and Parathyroid UK was invited to return next year. Well done Cleo!
Our second story reminds us that Primary Hyperparathyroidism doesn’t just affect older people. Made by 27 year old Balpreet it describes the challenges of living with hyperpara, getting a diagnosis and waiting for surgery – thank you Balpreet!
