Welcome hypopara mums-to-be!
We are very proud to have a growing group of hypopara mums at Parathyroid UK. We are recognised in the medical world as a trusted source of information and have been campaigning to raise awareness about the care for women with hypopara for many years. If you are planning a family, are pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant or if you have had your baby and are breastfeeding, we can help.
Read our stories
We publish some of our mums’ pregnancy experiences here on our website so you can read their pregnancy stories here . They are the first stories in the world ever written on this subject and show that having a baby is perfectly possible with hypopara and regular monitoring. If you would like to add your story to our collection please send it in, with a photo.
Find instant support
You can find really helpful support and advice on a daily basis from the experienced mums and mums- to- be in our facebook support group at Hypopara@ParathyroidUK. As hypopara is a lifelong condition this group is very special to its members who see themselves as a hypopara family. There is always someone around to offer warm and friendly support, sensible advice or just an understanding ear if you need a rant or a cry. We get it. To protect your privacy we ask that you become a member of Parathyroid UK to join our facebook group.
There is also a new, independent ‘Hypopara Mums‘ facebook group just for mums which you can join as well, run by a hypopara mum and former committee member of Parathyroid UK.
Find reliable information
Our facebook group is currently the only source of information on pregnancy in hypopara at the moment but, with doctors who are experienced in both fields, we are currently planning a patient information leaflet to cover all aspects of your pregnancy journey. Look our for news on our website or facebook page.
I hope my experience will inform others and make them more aware. Never be afraid to ask and voice your concerns about being pregnant and having hypoparathyroidism.
